Public Office is a Public Trust. The Department of the Interior and Local Government Regional Office VI in coordination with the Bantay Korapsyon Program Management Office conducted a webinar entitled: “Reinforcing Public Accountability” on May 25, 2021 via zoom platform. The said webinar aims to discuss the basic responsibility of each public officer under the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees and further review the Philippine Laws against graft and corruption.

It was attended by Governors, Vice Governors, Provincial SK Federation President, Provincial and Municipal LnB Presidents, Heads of CSOs, Mayors and Vice Mayors all throughout the region. Usec. Epimaco V. Densing III, CPA, MBA, Undersecretary for Operations and Supervising Authority of the Bantay-Korapsyon gave an opening remarks at the start of the webinar. 

 

RD Juan Jovian E. Ingeniero, CESO IV also gave welcome remarks to the participants. He emphasized that government positions are not trophies but are sacred symbols of trust and responsibility. 

DILG Region VI invited Resource Speakers to impart their expertise and ideas to the participants in order to serve the public better. The webinar was divided into 4 sessions which tackled different topics. Mr. George Mapile, Jr, Program Development Officer of the Bantay-Korapsyon PMO discussed what Bantay-Korapsyon is all about. 

On the other hand, Atty. R. Epicurus Charlo S. Salcedo, Acting Director of the Ombudsman Region 6 discussed Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and the Law on Plunder. Meanwhile, Deputy City Prosecutor Victoria G. Heler of the Office of the City Prosecutor discussed the Revised Penal Code provisions on offenses committed by public officers. Director Nelson G. Sarmiento, Regional Director of the Civil Service Commission Region 6 served as the resource speaker for the Session 4 which is all about R.A 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

At the end of the activity, ARD Maria Calpiza J. Sardua, CESO IV reminded the participants to make the Western Visayas a corruption free region.
