Eight selected local government units (LGUs) from Western Visayas imparted their strategies and best practices in contact tracing during the 3rd episode of Development Talk (DevTalk) Series on October 20, 2021, via Zoom and streamed through the DILG R6 Official Facebook Page.
DILG Assistant Regional Director and LGRRC Manager Maria Calpiza J. Sardua stressed out the importance of sharing these best practices, as Contact Tracing has been a crucial strategy during the COViD-19 pandemic; and this sharing is a celebration of the efforts of the Contact Tracers as frontliners.
“As a knowledge centric organization, we are putting value on these practices. More than the documentation in the form of AVPs and coffee table books, what is shared today will always remain in our mind and heart,” she added.
It is the goal of DILG Region 6 to promote the sharing and replication of best practices among LGUs to address governance concerns and improve service delivery. Presenters included Mayor Raul Banias of Concepcion, Iloilo; Mayor Ruben B. Corpus of Jordan, Guimaras; Mayor Evohn Nee Baldestamon of Patnongon, Antique; Maranatha Estrada-Vargas of Kalibo, Aklan; Reynalyn Mae Evaristo of Roxas City, Capiz; Azucena Mateo of Bago City, Negros Occidental; Dr. Rosalie Gellsanga Deocampo of Bacolod City; and Dr. Marigold Calsas of Iloilo City.

Magalong was the guest speaker to share his city’s efforts and approaches in contact tracing and COVID-19 control, which medical expert described as “model practices.” Also gracing the event was DILG Undersecretary for Peace and Order Bernardo C. Florece, Jr., who congratulated the presenting LGUs and encouraged everyone to innovate in the midst of trials.
“Let us treat the challenges we face as opportunities to hone our skills in good governance and pathways to serve our people better and more efficiently,” he said.
Dr. Ma. Sophia S. Pulmones of the Department of Health (DOH) and PltCol Gervacio O Balmaceda, chief of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Field Unit 6 shared their perspective on local COVID-19 response and LGUs’ best practices.
